From the President

       In 2001, a little book written by Bruce Wilkerson, became a smash hit within Christian communities;
The Prayer of Jabez. It is based on one man's plea to God to bless him and protect him, while enlarging
his territory.

Here it is:

Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory,
that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God
granted him what he requested. (1 Chronicles 4:9-10)

It is with great joy that I take on the role of Lay Director for HWEC in 2008. Seven years later, I have
suddenly surrounded myself with this prayer once again. It is on my computer, my cell phone, and prayed
during my devotion time. I want to make a difference, but only for what God has in store for our Emmaus
Community. I want to have the faith of Jabez, to call on the Lord with confidence and knowing that He
will lead my way.

You, as Fourth Day, have many opportunities to become involved this year. We have 6 Walks scheduled, and
2 have just been completed. And I believe everyone will say, the Lord was present and moved in mighty ways
within the pilgrims and Team.

I believe that one of our greatest callings within our Community is for sponsorship. God is choosing you to
be His servant hands, when you have prayed and asked someone to attend a Walk. This should not be casual,
but purposeful.

" Begin with prayer and wait for God's calling.
" Make sure your Pilgrim is a Christian and is active in a church. Emmaus is to build leadership within
our local church, not replace it.
" Be open and honest about your experience, when explaining it to the potential Pilgrim and family.
" Complete the application in its entirety, and then mail it in.
" Now you prepare for the Walk; sponsor's hour, candlelight, agape letters, closing, and the follow-up
       meeting.
" Lastly, you have a responsibility to plug your new Fourth Day into a reunion group. For me, I don't want
to miss a week without seeing my sisters that hold me accountable for my actions, and lift me up in prayer.

There are many other opportunities you have to become involved with the Community. Work on a Team,
make agape, help with property, come to Gatherings……the list is endless. Step out and contact a Board member.
"When we ask for God's blessing, we're not asking for more of what we could get for ourselves. We're crying out
for the wonderful, unlimited goodness that only God has the power to know about or give us. God's power to
accomplish great things suddenly finds no obstruction in you. You're moving in His direction. You're praying
for exactly what God desires. Suddenly the unhindered forces of heaven can begin to accomplish God's perfect
will - through you." (Bruce Wilkerson)

Let us pray this prayer together, and watch with anticipation for what the Lord has in store for our Community.
